Randy Pausch is a married father of three, a very popular professor at Carnegie Mellon University—and he is dying. He is suffering from pancreatic cancer, which he says has returned after surgery, chemotherapy and radiation. Doctors say he has only a few months to live.

In September 2007, Randy gave a final lecture to his students at Carnegie Mellon that has since been downloaded more than a million times on the Internet. “There’s an academic tradition called the ‘Last Lecture.’ Hypothetically, if you knew you were going to die and you had one last lecture, what would you say to your students?” Randy says. “Well, for me, there’s an elephant in the room. And the elephant in the room, for me, it wasn’t hypothetical.”

Despite the lecture’s wide popularity, Randy says he really only intended his words for his three small children. “I think it’s great that so many people have benefited from this lecture, but the truth of the matter is that I didn’t really even give it to the 400 people at Carnegie Mellon who came. I only wrote this lecture for three people, and when they’re older, they’ll watch it,” he says.

Kim Strother’s Swiss Ball Workout

How to build a strong foundation

Core stability training is essential to sports performance and injury prevention. The body’s core muscles are the foundation for all other movement. The muscles of the torso stabilize the spine and provide a solid foundation for movement in the extremities.

These core muscles lie deep within the torso. They generally attach to the spine, pelvis and muscles that support the scapula. When these muscles contract, we stabilize the the spine, pelvis and shoulders and create a solid base of support. We are then able to generate powerful movements of the extremities.

Training the muscles of the core also corrects postural imbalances that can lead to injuries. The biggest benefit of core training is to develop functional fitness – that is, fitness that is essential to both daily living and regular activities.

Best wishes

Drinking Alkaline Water

Forget cholesterol counts. Forget calories and fat grams. Forget blood pressure, blood sugar, hormone levels, or any of the other markers of health you’re used to at the doctor’s office. It turns out that the single measurement most important to your health is the pH of your blood and tissues – how acidic or alkaline it is. Different areas of the body have different ideal pH levels, but blood pH is the most telling of all. Just as your body temperature is rigidly regulated, the blood must be kept in a very narrow pH range – mildly basic or alkaline. The body will go to great lengths to preserve that, including wreaking havoc on other tissues or systems.

The pH level of our internal fluids affects every cell in our bodies. The entire metabolic process depends on an alkaline environment. Chronic over acidity corrodes body tissue, and if left unchecked will interrupt all cellular activities and functions, from the beating of your heart to the neutral firing of your brain. In other words, overacidity interferes with life itself. It is at the root of all sickness and disease.

If that’s not enough to get you interested in balacing your body pH naturally, nondestructively, keep this mind: Overacidity is also what’s keeping you FAT!

The goal then – and what this program allows you to do – is to create the proper alkaline balance within your body. The way to do that is by eating the proper balance of alkaline and acid foods. That means 80 percent of your diet must be alkalizing foods, like green vegetables. (That percentage will go down somewhat once you’ve successfully rebalanced yourself.) In addition, high quality supplements will help you achieve and maintain pH balance.

“The pH Miracle” Dr. Robert O. Young and Shelley Redford Young, Warner Books; (May 2002)

September 18, 2007

WELLINGTON (AFP) – English football icon David Beckham will play in an exhibition match in Wellington in December with his new club Los Angeles Galaxy, local football officials said Tuesday.

The Galaxy will play Wellington Phoenix, newcomers to Australia’s A-League competition, in New Zealand’s capital on December 2.

The deal to bring Beckham and his team to Wellington is dependent on the England international being fit enough to play at least 55 minutes of the match.

“It really is crucial that David Beckham takes the field and plays,” Phoenix owner and chairman Terry Serepisos told a news conference.

Beckham was expected to miss six weeks of football after suffering a knee strain at the end of August but Serepisos said he was confident the star would be fit by December.

If the 32-year-old cannot play, the match would be postponed, he said.

He added he hoped Beckham’s appearance would reignite interest in football in rugby-mad New Zealand.

It was unclear if Beckham’s wife Victoria would accompany him.

Her recently re-formed pop group, The Spice Girls, said in June they planned to play 11 dates in December and January.

LA Galaxy will travel to New Zealand after playing a one-off match against Australian A-League side Sydney FC in Sydney on November 27

David Beckham is planned to be in Australia for Nov 27th.

Time to up the anti with my training for Kokoda’s 24 hour race.

The idea of completing a 100km trek within 7 -10 days sounds ominous, the fact of considering doing that same trek within 24 hours non stop as a race doesn’t sound humanly possible. The reality, it is. The 2007 Winner completed the Kokoda 24 hour Race in 17.5 hours. “Unbelievable”and still alive to tell the tale…

Over the past few weeks trying to get my head around the idea of doing the Kokoda Track I had some interesting questions come up.

1. Running in the dark and now having tried it with a torch, found it doesn’t work very well.

2. What does your body really need to sustain a race pace for 24 hours?

3. Is the fella who completed Kokoda in 17.5 hour an Alien?

4. What do I really need to do, to be race ready and complete 100km event in 24 hours?

If you have any feedback or tips on what has work for you please share.

Enjoying the View

Transformation: The Life & Legacy of Werner Erhard

Almost forgotten culture icon and founder of the controversial est seminar pulls back the curtain on his life, his ideas and why he left the country.

The documentary, “Transformation: The Life & Legacy of Werner Erhard” had its world premiere at the Palm Beach International Film Festival in April 2006.

Werner Erhard, pioneer of the multi-billion dollar personal growth industry, breaks a long silence about his ideas, his life and the controversial program est that made him a cultural icon of the 1970′s and 80′s.

Werner Erhard is one of the most important philosophical thinkers of the XXth Century.
Yes, Werner is ‘controversial’. But his creation of a new paradigm of Possibility for Mankind will outlive the reactionary resistance of his detractors.

The fact is this guy is the founder of what we know today as personal develope, from gentlemen like ‘Anthony Robbins’ to teachers in the movie The Secret and all in between can thank Werner for his stand from mankind.

“At all times and under all circumstances, we have the power to transform the quality of our lives.” — Werner Erhard

I have experienced the legacy of this man’s work, through doing the Landmark Forum back in 1995 it has give me the tools to create a design a life…

Enjoy the brief video, and look forward to reading your comments.

Best Wishes

Here are Dr Mercola’s recommendations to supplement his excellent video for keeping your immune system in top shape, many of which coincide or dovetail with Null’s suggestions: Of course these are just a summary, but if you want a more comprehensive review please consider my new book Take Control of Your Health, which is loaded with key insights to improve your health and immune system.

Avoid Sugar

Sugar decreases the function of your immune system almost immediately. It is especially imperative to avoid sugar if you feel you are coming down with something, but keeping sugar out of your diet for the long haul will do wonders for your health and make your body stronger. Be aware that sugar is present in foods you may not suspect like ketchup and fruit juice.

Get Enough Rest

Just like it becomes harder for you to get your daily tasks done if you’re tired, if your body is overly fatigued it will be harder for it to fight off disease. Regular rest will keep you strong and ensure that your body has the strength to fight off any potential invaders. Be sure to check out my article on Secrets to a Good Night’s Sleep.

Eat Garlic Regularly

Garlic is a triple-whammy: it’s antibacterial, antiviral and anti-fungal. Garlic is one food that you should be eating every day. It is important to note that the garlic must be fresh to give you optimal health benefits. The active ingredient is destroyed within one hour of smashing the garlic, so garlic pills are virtually worthless and should not be used. When you use the garlic, compress it with a spoon prior to swallowing it, or put it through your juicer to add to your vegetable juice. If you swallow the clove intact you will not convert the active ingredient, allicin, to its active form.

Don’t Let Stress Become Overwhelming

We all face some stress everyday, but if stress becomes overwhelming then your body will be less able to fight off illnesses. It has been estimated that up to 90 percent of illness and disease is stress-related. If you feel that stress is taking a toll on your health, consider using Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), a type of psychological acupressure. EFT is remarkably effective in relieving stress associated with all kinds of events, from work to family to trauma.

Exercise

When you exercise you increase your circulation and your blood flow throughout your body. The components of your immune system are also better circulated, which means your immune system has a better chance of finding an illness before it has a chance to spread. In a sense, exercising helps your immune system to be more efficient in weeding out and acting upon viruses and diseases. You can review my exercise guidelines for some great tips to get started.

Wash Your Hands

Washing your hands will decrease your likelihood of spreading a virus to your nose, mouth or other people. If your immune system is strong, it should be able to fight off the virus if it does enter your body, but washing your hands provides a bit of extra protection. Be sure you don’t use antibacterial soap for this — antibacterial soaps are completely unnecessary, and they cause far more harm than good. You can read my article on hygiene mistakes for more information.

If you can bear the accusation of betrayal
and not betray your own soul.
If you can be faithless
and therefore trustworthy.

I want to know if you can see Beauty
even when it is not pretty
every day.
And if you can source your own life
from its presence.

I want to know if you can live with failure
yours and mine
and still stand at the edge of the lake
and shout to the silver of the full moon,
“Yes.”

It doesn’t interest me
to know where you live or how much money you have.
I want to know if you can get up
after the night of grief and despair
weary and bruised to the bone
and do what needs to be done
to feed the children.

It doesn’t interest me who you know
or how you came to be here.
I want to know if you will stand
in the centre of the fire
with me
and not shrink back.

It doesn’t interest me where or what or with whom
you have studied.
I want to know what sustains you
from the inside
when all else falls away.

I want to know if you can be alone
with yourself
and if you truly like the company you keep
in the empty moments.

Record holder and two-time winner of the 2006 & 2007

Mont Blanc Marathon.

THE COURSE

After a Start from the center of Chamonix (1035m), you steadily climb the upper valley of the Arve, progressively passing through the hamlets of “les Bois” and Lavancher to reach Argentière (1250m). You next cross the Col des Montets (1461m) into the heart of the Aiguilles Rouges game park.. Then, along the le Chemin des Diligences, the old stage-coach route, you arrive at the hamlet of Buet before reaching Vallorcine (1260m), which nestles at the bottom of a friendly valley only a stone’s throw from Switzerland.

Now you are heading towards the Col des Posettes (1997m) where you will be rewarded for your efforts by a splendid view of the massif of Mont Blanc. Opposite the Aiguille and the Tour glacier, the route now goes gradually back down across the mountain passes to reach Charamillon (1850m), then the gradient increases until the village of Tour (1453m). It now becomes calmer along the road leading to Montroc (1382m), before crossing the hamlets of Frasserands and Tré-le-champ. You return to the historic route of the Mont-Blanc cross-country race. At the heart of the Aiguilles Rouges massif, opposite the Mount-Blanc range, the route climbs up until la Flégère (1875m). After a crossing of the magnificent comb of Charlanon (1812m), you climb, at first gently and then more steeply, until just before the arrival at Planpraz (2050m) which presents one of the most beautiful views of Mont Blanc.

The route is made up of 16% of tarmac road, 52% of forest tracks and 32% of paths and is composed of an altitude difference of 2240 meters up and 1190 meters down.

Falling happens, Accept it
When you were learning to walk, you fell many times. You got back up and tried again. Eventually you could walk with no problem. You have to realize that falling is part of growing.

When you fall, the next natural step is to get up. We learn to grow and become stronger from our falls. While learning to walk, if you had stayed down after your first fall, you wouldn’t be walking today. So falling is part of growing; staying down is not.

“Do or do not. There is no try”

You NEED to Watch This Video!!!

This is an in-depth investigation into the disturbing truth behind the unlabeled, patented, genetically engineered foods that have quietly filled U.S. grocery store shelves for the past decade. It examines the complex web of market and political forces that are changing what we eat as huge multinational corporations seek to control the world’s food system.

Dr. Mercola’s Comment:

Without a doubt this is one of the best documentaries I have ever viewed. It will help you understand the very real threat that ALL future generations face as a result of genetic engineering

Laser Flashlight Hack! – video powered by Metacafe

This fascinating video appealed to the gadget geek in me — and I couldn’t resist sharing it with all you other technology junkies out there.

The video shows you how to turn a regular MiniMag flashlight into an extremely powerful hand-held laser (that’s strong enough to light matches and pop balloons). It does require some specialty parts and work, namely the laser component from a DVD burner and some soldering, but the steps are clear enough for most anyone to follow.

If you decide to give this one a try, please realize that this laser is much stronger than the typical laser pointers that you can buy. You should not use it for presentations or to play with your pets, and you should avoid pointing it at anyone, even at a distance, as it has the potential to cause serious eye damage, or worse.

Genetically Modified FoodsWhat to Know Before You Eat Them

Plus, What Food Producers Hope You Never Find Out …

People around the world pro-actively reject Genetically Modified (GM) products and crops. But in the United States, few people are even aware of what GM foods are — and labeling is not required.

Yet some 70% of the foods in your grocery store contain GM foods.

I’m so concerned about the grave risks in GM foods that I decided to present you with a series of articles originating from the Institute for Responsible Technology (IRT). Jeffrey Smith, leading spokesperson on the dangers of GM foods, founded the IRT in 2003 to warn the American public about this menace. Discover the hidden hazards of GM foods for yourself, at Jeffrey’s website: ResponsibleTechnology.org
